BERKSHIRE LTA CLUB OF THE YEAR 2022

At the Berkshire LTA AGM, Royal Ascot Tennis Club was awarded Berkshire Club of the Year 2022 in recognition of the transformation of our club over the past 3 years.

We certainly didn't set out to win any awards, but it is of course lovely to receive some external recognition for all the hard work. It has been a real team effort, but I would like to call out a few members who have been instrumental in helping make it happen. Firstly, I would like to recognise once again the contribution by Dion Taylor. Without Dion's drive and determination coupled with his outstanding project management and negotiation skills, quite simply we wouldn't have been able to do it. Secondly, I would also like to acknowledge Gerard Gathy who, back in early 2017, offered up his architectural skills to draw up the clubhouse renovation plans to show us the art of the possible and set us on our journey.

That said, fantastic facilities alone don't make a 'club' on their own, it's about the members and I would like to call out Jaeson Debarros, Andy Furst, Cliff Graham, Helen Sommerville and Karen Harris who have been instrumental in creating the vibrant social tennis sessions and leagues which are at the heart of our club today. Finally, I would also like to thank the volunteer committee members, past and present (Jaeson Debarros, Kim Sedgwick, Fi Wright, Fiona Gale, Jay Hunting, Cliff & Ruth Graham, Lisa Buttle, Janet McCormack, Mark Lejman, Sam Faulkner, Jojo Southwell, Mark Magrath and Jon Wright), who have offered up their time so willingly to help bring to life the vision we laid out 4 years ago ... "To create a thriving family club in the heart of Ascot. Playing a leading role in the growth of tennis in the community. A club that sets a standard for the enjoyment and pursuit of excellence in tennis, health and social experiences".

We're not done yet; we have plenty of ideas to keeping developing the club. If you've got a good idea or you'd like to get involved in some way please get in touch - it doesn't need to be a formal committee role, there are always areas where an extra pair of hands would be very welcome (e.g., Ascot Week Parking, helping to run one of our social tennis evenings etc).

Thanks again for your continued support in creating a club that we are all proud to be members of!

Adrian, Chairman

"A fantastic balance of relaxed and yet extremely well organised. A very good atmosphere at the club with brilliant courts and facilities, and all tennis playing abilities catered for.”.
