Friendly One Day Social Tournaments
  • 26 May 2019 (Men's and Ladies Doubles)
  • 30 June 2019 AM Combination* Doubles
  • 30 June 2019 PM Parent/Grandparent and Child
  • 18 August 2019 (Men's and Ladies Doubles)

On 26 May and 18 August these round robin events will be as per standard tennis doubles rules, with two separate men's and ladies doubles events running concurrently. i.e. the same format as our 17 Feb tournament.

New for this year, the tournaments on 30th June will be "Bouncing Ball" events with underarm serves, multiple bounces and tie-break scoring. Rather than the usual four game format we use for the standard doubles, on 30th June two seven point tie-breaks will be played in each round before a score of 0, 1 or 2 is recorded and your next opponents allocated. Full rules will be explained on the day before the start.

The 30th June adult "bouncing ball" event in the morning will be as per our other events in that you are paired with a different partner after every round and your individual scores are recorded. Please note though for any one round you may be paired with or against any combination* of men and/or women.

For the parent and child "bouncing ball" tournament in the afternoon scoring will be kept for the pair as they will stay together for the whole event and whilst for example in any one round a mother and a daughter may be playing against a father and son we will look to organise/separate the draw on the age and ability of the children who need to be aged between 6 to 15.

The emphasis is very much on fun and friendly competition. All members are welcome to enter including daytime members who can if they so wish make a voluntary contribution. The morning tournaments are a 9.45am for 10am start and finish lunch time with refreshments. The afternoon parent/grandparent and child tournament will be a 2.15pm for a 2.30pm start and we envisage it will last for a couple of hours.

So just for clarification, the morning and afternoon events on 30th June are entirely separate events and yes grandparents can play instead of parents if they so wish. Furthermore if you are a parent/grandparent and you would like to enter both the morning and afternoon events then you are welcome to do so.

Please join us for what are always enjoyable events. To enter please email Cliff on social@royalascottennis.com but please be aware numbers will be limited so entries will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Entry to all the tournaments is now open.
